All Lives MatterThere is a movement and slogan that says, “Black Lives Matter” and, certainly, they do. Another slogan says that “Blue Lives Matter” in reference to police officers and, certainly, they do. Still, there are those who believe that only innocent lives matter. The fact of the matter is that in the eyes of God, ALL LIVES MATTER. Why? Because every life, no matter what the person’s race, religion, or ethnic origin may be, each life is an eternal soul for whom Jesus Christ shed His innocent blood and died for. And why did He do that? Because of His great love for each and every soul. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” {Romans 5:8}
People do bad things, the Bible calls it sin, because they are born with a sin nature and out of that nature, the various acts of sin are committed. “ The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” {Jeremiah 17:9} The heart of man is desperately wicked because of one man, the man Adam when he rebelled and disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. We are reminded of this in Romans 5:12 where we read, “ Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”
God’s Word, the Bible, shows us just how vile and wicked mankind is by nature; the description God gives is not a pleasant one as we read, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” {Romans 1:28-32} In spite of all of this, God has provided a remedy for the sin nature, a means of being set free from it and all because He loves each and every soul. How can we know this? “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” {John 3:16-17} This is what Jesus Christ did for every person of the entire world when He shed His blood and died on the Cross of Calvary. He was redeeming us from the bondage of sin! “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:” {1 Peter 1:18-19} What we deserve is death but God offers us forgiveness and eternal life in Jesus Christ.” For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” {Romans 6:23}
